Density Gradient Centrifugation

Density Gradient Centrifugation (also known as Ficoll-Paque1, Pancoll2, or Lymphoprep3) is the most common method for separating PBMC (perioheral blood mononuclear cells - containing lymphocytes and monocytes) from red blood cells (RBC, erythrocytes). Based on different density of each blood cell population they can be separated by a single step centrifugation with the corresponding density gradient medium. Beside of the most common solution for the isolation of PBMCs (density 1.077 g/ml) pluriSelect offers optimized density gradient media for the isolation of Leukocytes, Monocytes, Platelets and PBMCs from older blood. Furthermore pluriMate® and TwinSpin® centrifugation tubes simplify handling and accelerate purification.
